This morning I went down to the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney to visit one of our clients Jade Rodrigues at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week showings. Jade moved to Sydney and jumped straight into launching her own luxury womens fashion label JATINE. Originally from South Africa, Jade had a career in accountancy before being lured by beautiful fabrics, details and accessories. Her label has a focus on quality and is produced entirely in Italy. This 3rd collection for Jatine, ‘Romantica Toscana’ SS2012 was inspired by falling in love in 1950s Tuscany. Gorgeous shots of this season were taken in Italy by photographer Leonardo Bigagli. Working with Jade is an inspiration as she is living her dream of bringing elegant sophistication and timeless quality to her designs for women of all ages. http://www.jatine.com/

Bright colours and bold patterns continue this season with a trend back to AZTEC design. Everything from fashion, textiles, accessories and even iphone cases – check out http://society6.com/ British fashion mecca Topshop (which has just opened in Melbourne) is a also big advocate of the current Aztec obsession, which is great, as I love it! After doing some research, it turns out the Aztecs were pretty industrious, ruling over great swathes of Central America in the 16th century. They were also pretty handy at creating pyramids which would explain the heavy influence of geometric triangles found in their designs. Adorned in all the bright colours you associate with Mexico – the turquoise Caribbean sea and brightly painted houses, it is no surprise that this current trend makes you feel like you should be on holiday. Long may the colour revival continue!

Detour Espresso in Darlinghurst has been my fave every morning coffee spot for a while so I notice when things change, inparticular their whole back wall into a stunning wonderland-like mural by Claire Nakazawa. Steve who owns this hot espresso spot on William street found Claire through his cousin. As a supporter of the arts, music and everything creative, Steve said he wanted something in the cafe with a complete visual that you felt you could interact with. The Mural took just over 10 days to create and we love how the hummingbird flies out from the back of the loo door onto the wall and leads you further into the surreal scene. Nice one Steve, we’ll be back for more art and of course the coffee.

Yep, it’s official, I love Brasil. Having left a cold and wintry London, it was hard not to be impressed by Rio’s brightly coloured architecture, vibrant street fashion, prolific street art and background beat of live music and samba. It’s got a lot going for it, not to mention playing host to the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. If you want a taste of just how cool things are over there, check out fashion blog Rio Etc… http://rioetc.com.br/

In its first edition it covers art, events, food and fashion with cool typography reminiscent of vintage newspapers. Broadsheet is a nice change as it exists not only online but also in the physical world, like us. By Jack Paradise.

Recently i was switched on to a fantastic site for all fashionistas - Style.com Up-to-the-minute content and hundreds of gorgeous images of the lastest runway and street styles from around the globe. The insider fashion news is there for everyone (not a paid site like some others) plus you can create your own lookbooks with your favourite styles of the season, how fun!

All of this is the creative direction of Dirk Standen, editor in chief of Style.com who comments in an article in 10 magazine, that style.com has a broad appeal and he says ‘I don’t really distinguish between someone in the industry who is coming to the site or that girl in Minnesota who is just discovering fashion. To me, they both share this obsession with fashion and they’re both insiders in their own way.’ Sounds like common-unity in the fashion world – nice!

However what I found really interesting is due to the huge success of their online site they have now published a print magazine Style.com/Print. With so many print publications leaving our newstands due to the digital age taking over this was exciting to see.

I have yet to get hold of a copy, as the first edition was sold out but I will be rushing to get my hands on the next issue and will keep you posted. And finally…

Street style is no longer a side show, it’s a street show” – Dirk Standen, editor in chief of Style.com and Style.com/Print

Art on the street wherever you go. Here are a couple of recent works that appeared around Darlinghurst near our studio and then disappeared a few days later. You have to be quick to catch them!

Creative Review is a British magazine which has a long-standing reputation for showcasing the best creative talent across a range of media (graphic design, advertising, digital media, illustration, photography and visual communication worldwide). The past month has seen the publication of the much coveted Photography Annual 2011. A couple of standouts for me were still-life photographer Giles Revell’s television trailer and stills campaign for the BBC series of programs on painting in the last two centuries (http://www.gilesrevell.com/projects/art-revealed) and Tara Moore’s portrait photography (http://www.taramoore.co.uk).

Hidden away in a little corner of the old city of London is the St. Bride Library. Bringing the history of print culture to life, the library is a typographer’s dream! During the one-day letterpress course I attended there, I learnt about type from the seventeenth to the twentieth century and even got to set my own type with individual letters and use old wooden type to create my own artwork. Did you know that the words Upper and Lower Case refer to the old trays (cases) which housed all the letters of a specific typeface. All the capital letters were in a tray which went above they tray with all the lower-case letters. Interesting stuff! To find out more, or if you’re anywhere near London, check out: http://www.stbride.org/
